Default Diesels really don't like being run empty do they!!

Sick of my life today! Battery carked it, so I went and bought a new one, took it home and fitted it only to find that although it's exactly the same size as the GM one, the clamp won't bite so although it can't come up or down, it can slide front to back.

Decided to live with it for now and look into options about bracing it, a post on here said there's a clip that clips into the battery box to stop the battery sliding, so that's a good thing!

Decided to try starting it, immediately burst into life - happy days so shut it off to tidy up, went to start again and crank, crank, crank...

I knew the fuel was low, as it was flashing the light at me but prior to the battery swap, the range to empty reading said 30 miles. It was only after the battery swap that it popped up saying "Range 0 Miles"... Cue a trudge to the petrol station... Joy!!

Stuck 5 litres in, let it prime and crank crank crank, nothing (although the pump sounded like someone who hasn't eaten for a month, it was gurgling and rumbling and generally protesting like mad). It also thought now would be a good time to tell me about low fuel rail pressure... y'don't say. Well done, car!!

Eventually got it going, drove it as gently as I could to the petrol station and got enough fuel in to make the gauge actually respond, as sod's law would dictate though, it went up to 1/8th of a tank while I was sitting waiting, still showing Range 0 Miles...

I think from now on, the Range Meter will be known as "that lying little ******* who lives in my dashboard!!"

There should be a little block that sits in front of the battery that can be pulled out and then moved if the battery is smaller. It even has the corresponding battery sizes written on the bottom of the battery tray

My tray has the sizes written on it, but no little block... That's the bit I need!!

If yours has one fitted John, any chance of a photo of it so I know what I'm looking for?

You've probably sucked all the crap from the bottom of the tank into your fuel system as well - I would consider changing the fuel filter

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I'll see how it goes - if it starts protesting again, I'll be getting my hands dirty *again*!
