    Default Safeguard again (I know)

I know there's a few threads up about this but I just wanted to check something out.
When I went and looked at the car for sale it was displaying the safeguard message, disappeared when pushed ok but I noticed the rear interior light was not in place and was in fact in the glovebox. Have read there could be a fault with the roof harness (is that right) or the ultrasonics.
I just don't fancy a 100 mile round trip when I pick her up only to have to go back at a later date for them to rectify any issues.

Only way to know for sure is to have the fault code(s) read out.

Why not mention it before going to pick it up? Then say you'll only pick it up once fixed.

could be a few things Dave,

You can partially check by opening each door in turn and checking to see if the interior light comes on (this tells if the main wiring in the door is broken), but best bet is to get them to fault code read it beforehand..

Looking back over the forums when I got the message, the most common cause on a hatch/saloon is the ultrasonic sensors or the rear screen demister (on estate it's the side window break sensors).

On mine, I found that by disabling the ultrasonics (by pressing the alarm button on the dash before locking the car), the error wouldn't come up. Unplugged the sensors and plugged them back in again (you need to remove the front interior light to get to the connector), and it's been fine ever since.

Also check the rear screen demister works. The alarm system uses it as a break glass sensor (ie if the rear screen is smashed, the demister wires get broken).

This is a good way to tell if its the ultrasonic sensors without the use of a diag tool.

Press the button to disable them and then get out and lock the car... leave it a min or two.. unlock and then get back in and turn the ign on - if you dont get the message then its the sensors. Often cured by unplugging them - contact cleaner and then plugging back in.

Is the OP's name Dave? Couldn't see any reference to it.

If you meant me, I'm not the one buying the car

Couldn't get though this afternoon when I tried calling but it was lunch time so I've left a message on their voicemail about it.

    Smile Safeguard Fault

Had the safeguard coming up and alarm going off although it was not the alarm siren but the cars horn .took to garage and they replaced the siren but did not clear the fault, phoned various vauxhall dealers and was told it would have to be put on the computerprices £55/90.As my car is an estate it has the alarm running through the rear quarter light window.
As i am an electician i checked the resistance of the windows(if you take out the two covers in the boot space you can see the wires connecting to the glass)one reading was 56ohms the other 5.6k ohms i took the wires of the window with the high resistance and joined them together, this seems to have cured the problem.
A new window fitted will cost £290.00,so check out the rear windows
