    Default Op Com questions....

before I start I am referring to the genuine fully licensed op com and not the cheap 30 quid copies.

I was thinking about shelling out for full opcom (which is a good bit cheaper than Tech 2 I believe)

What can't it do that tech 2 can? Will I be able to activate things like electric rear windows, headlight washers Xenons etc?

Also will it read other non VX cars? as i'd be planning to recoup some of the money by code reading for folk ( I know how expensive it can be from the stealers)

    All comments welcomed

Hmmmm, now how can you find out what can and can't be done, maybe someone could give you a chance to try it out and explore for yourself, as far as I am aware the software only covers VX and Saab, I haven't tried any other software so can't say whether it would work or not.

I would say that the OP COM or VX COM gives a clue that it will only work for Opel / Vauxhall cars. Could be wrong though.

Question is, would you still buy it if you knew it would only work for these makes?

Yes I probably would, I am more interested in the programming side of things tbh, at 50 quid a session for tech 2 at my local dealer i'd soon save a fair bit of the cash back. I also plan to change my diesel pump for a lower mileage one (just to prove it can be done) and of course I need to be able to code it in

When they done the diagnostic on my car last week, it has listed they used Tech'2. Don't know if the dealer uses Tech'2. Think Op/Vaux Com have few advantages over Tech2.

Having looked at a it bit I think the main difference is that Op/Vaux Com is PC based where as Tech 2 has it's own hand held device

My dealer definatly used genuine Tech 2 but with Vaxu Com at about 700 it looks like the better option

If you have a laptop the alternatives to tech 2 are fine! BUT they require a laptop!!, they will do almost anything you require & work well.

Vaux-com (op-com in other countries) has come a long way since I owned it a few years ago, you can now do coding on mostly all modules available. The only thing they wont be able to do and probably never will due to licensing issues is to flash firmware to the modules. If you want the genuine thing that comes with full support then vaux-com is the way to go...

They also operate their own forum as well. Derek who is the contact for vaux-com is very helpful and is always on the end of the phone to sort out problems. if their is something vaux-com cant do or you find a bug in the software they will sort it out and release an updated version
Plasma's Tech2 services are now open and able to provide services
