If im going to take the EGR off...

To clean it, is it worth putting the Fiat blanking plate on it? (Or is there another one to use with the pre made holes etc?)

The how to looks ok, and i with 58k on the clock i hope it wont be stuck to the manifold lilke my last Vx.

Anyone thing thats the better thing to do?

I fitted the blanking gaskets m8 and not had a problem. i would recommend it.

If you buy the two and it throws the spanner light on, then it might be that it doesn't like the smaller more restictive one.

Ah cool, Do i get them from Fiat? I'm not sure which one to use lol

Get them from Fiat m8.

Part numbers are in the part no section.

The square one is the one for the 150 but if you purchase the other one (the oval one which is for the 120) too it will fit on the exhaust side of the egr valve - make sure though, to buy two standard oval gaskets too.

Ah, well i shall order them next week then! gimme sumink to do. Clean the Egr and put the new gaskets in!

Some later models with slightly updated ECU firmware may throw up the EML, complaining of low EGR flow, it is usually due to the smaller more restictive oval gasket.

Ah ok, Well there only what £20 all in?

I'm assuming it should prevent the EGR and swirl flaps gunking up then?

Any hints on removing the EGR? Im a lil paranoid as when i took my one off my astra it cracked the manifold in half and cost me several hundred to get fixed lol!

I made a blanking plate from a pice of aluminium plate in the workshop so it cost me nothing other than 30 mins of my own time, including fitting it to the car. You could make one from a drinks tin, bean can or similar. That would be easier as these are thinner.
I kept getting a CEL so I drilled an 8mm hole in the centre and have not had a CEL since.
I may now try a 6mm hole and if that works an even smaller hole.
However, I have now removed the oil breather vent that goes over the top of the engine on the driver side and into the inlet tract. That now vents to a plastic oil can acting as an oil catch tank so I think the problem is permanently solved.
