Default Erratic running temp 1.9 CDTI

    Hi all,
Just wondered if anyone had had any problems with the temperature gauge fluctuating erratically. The car doesnt seem to run badly ive just never noticed this before.

One thing i have noticed is the smell when i get out of the car is quite strong, like something is getting too hot? Its bugging the hell out of me.

Car is 07 with 24,000 miles.

    any help appreciated

ive got a 1.9 cdti 8v 120 mate and its doing exactly the same, strangly since i gave it an oil change and used super synthetic oil from the steelers !
im sure its after this that the temp guage went daft - fluctuating between 80 and 91 degrees

ive posted on this forum myself but not had any luck .

    Default Reading low, I think

Mine reads about 80 most of the time but give it a bit of wellie and it goes up to about 85. Coasting downhill and it'll drop below 80. Is this normal? 1.9 cdti Signum. Dealers Tech 2'd it last week and didn't show any faults relating to this. It also seems to take a long time to warm up. In the old days, I would have said sticking thermostat. Could that still be a possible diagnosis with all the electronics that are in a car these days or am I being naive?

    Should have seen this earlier!

Its probably normal but could be a dodgy thermostat. Also, if yours is an estate then the smell could be your dpf after a regen.

Hi. Though I would share my findings. I also had the same issues with the temp gauge, fluctuating between 75 and 85 and taking some time to warm up. I decided to fork out and buy a new thermostat from the dealers. It cost me £49!! You have to buy the complete housing. Changed it today and bingo its now warms up quicker and is pretty steady at 87 deg. Also the car seems to run better aswell. Well happy.

Thanks for your findings - maybe I'll try that, especially if it makes the car go better too!
