    Default Vauxhall dealer service cost

I know I am a bit old and grumpy now I have turned 50 but I have just had a quote from my local Vauxhall dealer for a service next week on my 2008 Vectra 1.9 CDTi. They want £277, which I can sort of live with. The problem is that I also own a 2006/56 Jaguar XK 4.2 (alloy bodied non supercharged petrol V8) that I recently had serviced by a Jaguar dealer that cost only £13 more than Vauxhall are asking for. This suggests to me that Jaguar offer better value than Vauxhall which doesn't seem right or am I missing something (both service's include the cost of 12 months M.o.T. test and both cars have a similar mileage).

I only wish I could insure the Jaguar for £13 more than the Vectra !

Most cars are just lift the bonnet, swap the oil, and one other filter
As a result the costs are typically the same no matter what they are (in like for like size)
Compare the receipts to see the parts that were replaced

I've just had the quote in my for my Vectra 3.0 V6 CDTI at 146K miles
This service is £180, normally £210, that includes 8 litres of GM-LL oil, and OE filters (Pollen Carbon version, Air Filter, and Fuel Filter)
The MoT is a further £30, normally £55
However, I have budgeted for other repairs required at this service (that I know about) at £1350

Good point, but I did expect the labour rates to be considerably different.

Not really, as almost all the main dealers I use in Scotland have the same rate or within £5 of each other; BMW, Ford, and Vauxhall
Once a year I ask what their rate is and compare, at the moment the main rate is £74.40 per hour, with the discounted rate at £66.00 per hour, and that is pretty much unchanged since 2010

VW are slightly cheaper, but their parts are slightly more expensive; as a result their service costs are also about the same

You could get it cheaper if you had a Masterfit Service Clubcard

Buy an Audi or a Beemer - then you can enjoy colossal main dealer charges.

Plus, in 2006 Ford still owned Jag didn't they so a lot of the service parts are from the Ford parts bin which would make prices cheaper - not a criticism, just a comment.

How the hell do they get away with charging £250 for some oil, a filter and a quick check here and there?
Just checked Fords price and it's £129 for an interim service. That's more like it.
