Is this an easy upgrade to do?
I have seen a 2nd hand kit with the tailgate button, motor, struts and a mass of cableing.
What parts are needed?
Is it plug and play or does it need Tech2?

It will need tech2 as they have to change the programming in REC, DDM and BCM.
But it sounds like you found a kit containing all bits.. as you need new wiring in the tailgate, rear og the car, new lock, switches, struts, motor.
forgot to say the user "hummelshøj" on here have retrofitted it to his estate.
Make sure its what you want before doing anything drastic, I have it on my estate and to be honest, its just a slow and inconvenient nusiance!!!
Thats just my opinion of it, and quite frequently, it goes through phases of intermittent faults where it won't close automatically.
To be honest I saw the kit on ebay and thought for say £150 I could get it all working with Tech2. Providing its relatively straight forward it would make a nice mod.
I have seen the power tailgate in action in the supermarket carpark. Didn't seem that slow, but what people do is open the boot before they get to the car (thats the bit that look cool) and by the time they arrive its open. The close it as they are getting into the car.
I guess its one of those things that could become annoying but I wouldn;t know without trying it.
HA HA, yes i totally agree about the opening in supermarket carpark thing, I do it myself!! I suppose its OK when it works properly. BUT what does NOT look cool is when you press the button for it to close and get in the car, only to find that it hasn't fully closed, and you have to get back out and give it a ****** good shove, then you just look like a **** with a dodgy car!!
The kit on ebay arnt there anymore if it was that you where looking at.
Yep its gone from eBay.
I decided against doing it.
hummelshøj hasn't got his working yet and looking around it seems that there can be a few problems with the tailgate motor and electrics.
Besides, the money would be better used elsewhere.
Cheers anyway.
