    Default Battery light

The battery light on the dashboard has started coming on intermittantly over the past couple of days and will only go off if ignition turned off and then on again (revving will not extinguish it)

I've not had the battery or alternator checked yet but just wondered if anything may cause it? In February just after I bought the car it started to do it shortly before the fuel pump went (2.2 Direct) but hadn't done it again til recently. Was this just coincidence.

    Thanks in anticipation!

Hi Could be one of these :-

    * Auxiliary drive belt broken, worn or faulty automatic adjuster.

    * Internal fault in voltage regulator

    * loose wires in the charging circuit.

Does the light come on when the A/C for example is switched on or any other electrical load is?

I have looked at your profile and noticed it is registered 2004, so is my car and it had a recall on it's alternator carried out.

Possibly the alternator is starting to pack up.

Phone Vx Customer care and get them to tell you if this recall has been carried out.

    Default same here

Ive had the same problem mate, pump got changed 10 months ago, the battery light still comes on, think it comes on under low voltage and when its due to stall ie: trying to keep the biting point on a hill, not enough revs, light comes on.

Slap a voltmeter across the battery terminals, run the car when idling should push out about 14.5 volts, now switch on lights ,radio aircon, blower, hrw and then check reading...should be no lower than 13 volts..if it is then your alternators goosed..hope this helps ya.

Cheers for the speedy responses chaps. I'm off work tomorrow so will have a play with my multimeter and check the obvious suspects first and also give Vx a ring.

It seems to be quite random and also not under any particular electrical load. In fact driving back from Manchester Airport yesterday with th AC on and after standing for a week it didn't come on at all.

Check the auxilary drive belt mate, shine a torch on it,if the actual belt looks shiny,or any obvious faults then it's time to change the blighter, this could explain why from cold running the fault did'nt show up but then again i could be peeing in the wind.
