Default 4th Year Service Quote....about right?

Went to my vx dealer today as I got a letter about the handbrake recall this morning (a year after I bought the car) and while I was there got a quote for the 4th year service. Have been quoted about £320.00. How does this price sound. The car has had a basic service this year by a non-vx garage, so if you think it's an okay price then I'll probably go ahead with it next year. If not, then I'll probably take it to an independant garage to do it at half the price. Comments and advice welcome!

sounds expensive mate i work for a vauxhall dealer and it normally costs about 190 for same service would ask them if that price includes brake fluid change and pollen filter but still wouldn't pay no more than 250 all in

I thought it sounded expensive. Yeah, that includes brake fluid change and all filters being changed (fuel/pollen/air/oil filters) plugs, oil change and checks all round etc.

It's no surprise that dealers workshops are empty by lunchtime is it? when they are charging £75 an hour plus vat. Quoteing people silly prices for a service is only going to make them go to the independants and to be fair, alot of the independants in this area are ex dealer mechanics anyway, so they know what there doing.

Hmmm, might shop round then. I got a printout of what would be done on the service, so may take it to a couple of independant garages to see what prices they'd offer for the same level of work.

As long as you didn't go to Evans Halshaw.
Try Motorbodies as i'm sure they do special prices for a service, i know mine was only a minor service and that cost me £150 for a V6.
Minor service on a 4 cylinder was £99.

Check in the Herald & Post as they have a advert in there most weeks.

That's way too expensive, however I have had similar from other independents including AA and blackcircles, even my local was around £300

The dealership I use, I supplied a photocopy of the items I wanted done from a previous service with the items highlighted, and has provided a quote of £180
This is for EVERYTHING, excluding cambelt change

    GM-LL oil
    oil filter
    pollen filter
    air filter
    brake fluid change
    inspect V-belt
    coolant grade and gravity check

Thanks for the comments guys, looks like I won't be going there then lol. Think I'll be sticking to the independent garages in future.

No I went to Squire Furneaux in houhgton regis as it's down the road from me and I only went there to book it in for the handbrake recall. Don't think I'll be going there for the service though. They quoted me £330 to have the cambelt don't on my last 1.8 veccy too about 2 years ago...needless to say I didn't take it there.
