And yet Vauxhall STILL deny that there is a problem with the Vectra Handbrakes.

Hope this story makes it way to HQ but they'll still deny it no doubt!

Snowman, you got your ears on?

My handbrake failed for the very first time a couple of weeks ago on the VXR.....

Pulled into a petrol station... applied the handbrake.... got out....shut the door behind me...... 'CLUNK'.... the car started rolling away !!!!

Thankfully one of my friends was in the car and pulled the handbrake back on.... FFS !!

I reflected on this and thought afterwards what would have happened if I'd been filling up at the time... the car rolling away would have trapped the petrol pump in the petrol filler hole... god knows what would have happened then....

    Its a disgrace

Surely the problem appearing on Watchdog should've been enough!!

What got me was that they issued a "sticker" to tell us HOW2 engage the handbrake correctly.

    How insulting!

Leave in gear = no effect.

I am still convinced that method of application is a big bearing on if it fails or not. Mine's never failed in over 3 years, and I always apply it the same, ie pull firmly without pressing the release button at all..

Agree with Ste, although it's contrary to best practice in most driving manuals for applying a handbrake. VX will always take the line, 'do it how we say in the owners manual'.

Mine's released once, after father-in-law leant on it after I applied it.

Hopefully it doesnt happen, but vauxhall will know all about it if someone gets killed. Especially as its such a well known problem and their response has been pathetic!
