    Default MOT/tax annoyance

    Hi everyone,

    my MOT runs out 02/12/2012
    tax runs out 30/11/2012

I got it motd last week and it failed, quite badly lol. Anyhoo, i'm trying to buy my tax disc online, and it says i don't have a valid MOT so i can't apply for the tax disc. Which i was half aware that even though the old MOT still has a few days, a recent fail does void the old one. So do i hunt out my insurance certificate and use the old MOT to get one from a post office. Or hope to god the work is done in time tomoro so i dont have to declare it sorn or something?

I just wana buy a tax disc how hard can it be lol

Doesnt void it but for taxing a car I think it needs to have atleast 14 days on it.

Just get a new MOT done then Tax it.

If I remember correctly you do not need to SORN, for something like two weeks after MOT and Tax are due. Remember though that you can only drive to an MOT station or Garage for a pre booked appointment during this time.
    3.2 v6 Signum and loving it 😁

Also got a 1.0 Corsa £20 per year tax. The Signum is £45 more than my Peugeot 307 but I get at least 10mpg more, on 15k miles a year still better off

Sadly not the case any more
On the day after a Tax Disc expires it must be declared as SORN, if it is not renewed

However, ironically in this case it would have been easier to renew the Tax Disc first (from 15 November onwards) and then renew the MoT
It has also been the case for some time now that if the car has a valid MoT and if another is performed during the final month of validity of that MoT the replacement then applies automatically
It is for that very reason why our cars have a MoT carried out every six months

If your car passes the mot then your old tax disc is valid for 5 days if you apply for the new disc online or over the phone.
You have 14 days to re-tax the vehicle after expiry, before sorn must be declared but it cannot be used or kept on the road.
