Default Who has an oil catch tank fitted?

Thinking about fitting an oil catch tank.

Who has one fitted and how much oil do you end up with?

Seen a few fitted on cars with the inlet/outlets point up slightly which looks odd but have seen this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-180...item2a13a503f9

Sprayed black and with the side inlets/outlets I think it would blend in quite well

    I've fitted one to my 3.2 http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136988
though on that particular tank i drilled out the fittings where they go into the tank as imo they were a lil small... get around 1/2 full every couple of weeks(approx 600-700 miles or so)... find it's more dirty water/lil mayo than oil(and no i haven't head gasket issues lol)

I fitted one just over a week ago, and it has caught nothing whatsoever, pipes are still spotless that lead to the catch tank.. odd...

Thinking of fitting one soon, but does anyone know why you can't just pinch/block the hose that joins to the air intake pipe? Surely that would do the job of stopping oil mist getting into the inlet? Just a theory after looking at mine earlier....

Its a breather hose that needs to 'breath'

If you block it you will cause a pressure build up could start to cause other engine problems like blown seals etc.

could cause crank case pressure to build up & something is likely to go pop

Ive done 100k in mine... question to both of you..what state were the pipes in you cut into? any mayo in there? if there was then you know there was oil/water vapour passing through them...if there was maybe catch tank mounted too high??(water comes from when oil cools and air is sucked back in and moisture condenses... many 3.2 owners see this as mayo on filler cap/top of oil spout)

Not too sure on diesels but on a petrol the oil vapour can derate the octane rating..plus keeps the cr@p out of the throttle body that can also effect idleing.

Like Lee says.. I had my original breather freeze up in the winter and ended up blowing 2 rocker seals.. chucked oil out and ended up being towed home

And just to clarify things a little... This is the diesel section so I can't remark on how yours should be working as i've a petrol(i can go google it though)... I'd googled stuff and found most on evo's and scoobs etc before fitting to mine.. I mostly collect water in mine...with a little oil/mayo (no..this isn't some recipe for a light dipping sauce lol).. checking tonight I'd say get 1/4 to 1/2 full over 2 weeks (only had to top up oil between services about 4 times(from ownership..25-100k) and never had to top up water so I know it's not coming from the engine as such)

edit: googled it for you oil burning peeps.. too lazy to type(or maybe a lil 'enginist' lol.. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=oil...&aqi=&aql=&oq=
