Variable Valve Timing
Elaborate a little as to how it differs from fixed valve timing?
Linky
It all depends on your budget, how many miles you will do etc. Its not as simple as which it better
Normal driving, the valves act as a normal car, and a 1.8 in a vectra is a bit lethargic (I know as i have one) and this helps the economy, but boot it or go above about 4500 rpm and the valves change by either opening further or how they open changes giving it alot more poke but use more fuel.
Beat me to it Sig ,
the cdti is the one to go for bud the 1.8 is really slow
