Angry I'm SOOOOO hacked off with Vauxhall

In December 2009 I paid out £265 for a replacement EGR valve at my local Vauxhall dealership. Expensive I thought for an £82 part but nethertheless carried on as I thought it was worth having Masterfit fix it as I know its a common problem on the vectra.

Unfortunatley as I was coming home down the motorway I have the usual symptoms loss of power, juddering, spanner light on etc. I pulled off at the juncton where I work and took it to my local independant garage. Low and behold hey identified the EGR valve had failed again after only 22 weeks.

As I live 40 miles from the dealer the garage advised not to drive it that far and so I decided to have the EGR replaced by a garage who know what they are doing. Another £250 quid :-(

I then contcted Vauxhall customer services and my local vauxhall dealer with a letter of complaint and a copy of the invoice that I have had to pay for the replacement. No joy from either just two fingers!!

The delaer wrote back and siad I had breached the Masterfit terms and conditions by taking the vehicle elsewhere to have the EGR replaced and they would not reimburse me. I should have taken it back to them or the bit I didn't know any vauxhall masterfit in the country.

Is there any way i can recover my costs? I needed to have the car fixed as I use it for my job!

    Thanks

The parts and work is under guarantee where you got the work carried out.

Unfortuneatly thats like buying clothes from next then taking them to primark when they start to fall apart after one wash.

I doubt you can without going to the small claims court as the warranty for the replacement part was with Vx so you should have taken the car back to them for repair.

Not quite as any branch of the retailer would replace the item, like any Vx dealer would do the repair.

Do they not allow you to take it to another VX garage to get it sorted?

Contact you local Citizens advice bureau they are very helpful in such matters they will advise you of the legal rights and issues arising in this matter if you have breached the contract as your car could not be driven the distance back to the dealer you had "no choice" but to allow another garage to work on the car.

No the warranty information I have on the back of the invoice clearly states that it has to be returned to one of the vauxhall branches which were all 45+ miles away from where the problem occured and that they will not pay any recovery costs towards getting the vehicle to them....so I was not aware that apparantley you could take it to ANY Masterfit retailer regardless of if they were part of the dealership or not.....perosnally I dont think they would have fixed it if they had not undertaken the repair in the first place???

If you had called Vauxhall before having the work done they may have been able to authorise the work to be carried out.

But now you have removed the part they have fitted.
The most you could really do is take the EGR valve they fitted back to them for refund/replacement.

Thats what i would have thought take it to any dealer, a quick phone call to vauxhall and the work would have been carried out. A quick google and theres 4 dealerships in edinburgh.

Its down to your own mistake you did'nt take it back to a vauxhall garage. Best take this on the chin and learn from it.
