Just take it out mate, am sure you dont need it on a diesel, or is that the reason you ask.

Of course you need it. Without it the car will be out of conformance to the type approval and emissions regs. If it wasn't needed it wouldn't be there in the first place.

You will fail an MOT with a decatted system, so keep the old part and replace for MOT time.

Or just leave it as it is, I am pretty sure that the gains in power etc would not be that large anyway.

Not for a diesel mate. Will need it to leave the factory to get Euro 4 but will pass mot emissions without it. Different standards mate.

Are they not developing a new cat system, similar to a sports cat that conforms to the new euro reg, so that all cars are in line and only emit the lowest emissions?
I think it also brings your road tax down because of the lower emissions

Was that directed at my comments above it??

Please re-read my post, it will fail an MOT (therefore non-roadworthy !) without a cat and will be non conformant to type approval and emissions regs (which actually makes it illegal to use on the road !). To pass the emissions regs it needs a cat, and it needs to pass these emissions regs to be type approved.

I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

If it wasn't needed it wouldn't be there. I would have thought (and hope) that Opel / VX engineers know a little more than folks on here

http://www.bobmckay.co.uk/emission.html Take a look here. Diesels are only tested using a smoke meter. There are other sources of information if you google but this explains it quite well. There are guys on here who have done the decat on a oil burner and passed there mot's.
Also a little thread about is HERE
