Oh botty - stripped rear caliper guide pin?

On trying to take the rear pads out today, the upper caliper guide pin on the o/s was very tight to undo. Compared to how easy the bottom guide pin came out, I knew something was amiss.

After greasing the new pads up, put the caliper back on and the bottom guide bolt went in fine. The top one was very tight and, although I was careful, I think I've stripped the thread on the bolt and the thread on the carrier.

Can I just buy a new guide bolt and re-tap the carrier or is it a new carrier job?

if the pad carrier thread is stipped then it will need a new one but i think its part of the hub

or you could try a helicoil as these can work very well indeed. i have used them on spark plugs and for cylinder heads bolts

Just about to start crying (big time). I've consoled myself that as it was difficult to come out, the damge was probably done by someone else and I'm left to clear up

dont know if halfords sell the as i think they are the same as fords

Good news (perhaps?) - mate at VX looked on TIS and it looks like carrier is a separate item (connected to hub carrier by two bolts).

Will phone VX on Monday and check price - guessing @ £20 million plus VAT

yep, they are a seperate part and just two E18 bolts to swap it..

..

or, you could try an M8 tap in it to see if you can recover the thread enough..
