    confused Vectra 2.2DTI keeps stopping

    Can anybody help?

Our Vectra 2.2DTI is having running problems. Starts ok but sometimes hunts in idle (500rpm) and then won't accelerate and cuts out. Other times it does start and runs ok, then every now and then the whole thing just cuts out without warning, even when at speed on motorway etc. This seems to be accompanied by a slight drop in RPM.

Diagnostic showed EGR. Got a new one. Still got the problem.

Took it to Vauxhall dealer as local garage suggested Bosch full diagnostic. Vaux dealer did diagnostic, quoted for new glow plugs but seemingly couldn't be bothered to take it for a run to witness the problem. Wasn't convinced that changing the glow plugs was anything to do with it so didn't do it.

Man in pub suggested un-plugging airflow sensor which we did. Car runs without breaking down with this unplugged tho in safe mode with no poke and engine management light permanently lit.

Bought new airflow meter........ fitted it....... plugged it in. Car got the problem back.

Don't really know what to do next apart from run around with it unplugged. Spending £50 a pop for useless diagnostics. Need a decent Notts / Derby diesel expert or a DIY solution!

Check your vaccum pipes for splits and leaks. It's common for them to degrade on the DTI. I replaced mine for silicone ones.

yep always good to help ......... vac pipes wont make a car cut out ......if the problem is with the mass air check the loom pin it out ...if its ok its the ecu ....so means a new pump ...........have you had it tech tested ?...and if all else fails ....burn it ...lol .

maf doesn't cause it to cut out either, crank sensor could be a possible cause

I was assuming that it was going into limp home mode as the OP says……..

“Other times it does start and runs ok, then every now and then the whole thing just cuts out without warning, even when at speed on motorway etc. This seems to be accompanied by a slight drop in RPM.”

If It CUT out it would have no revs as the engine would be stopped!
Seems like a vacuum problem to me. I hope so as it is the easier fix for the OP. I always start with the simple stuff first.

If the engine is stopping then you have a fair point.

Not really sure why you started this thread in the events section under the "Irmscher Factory Road Trip - 13-16th April Road trip across Europe to German Irmscher Factory" Anyway, I've moved it to a more relevant section

    Unhappy

Thanks for tips. Engine revs dip a bit before it starts playing up, then it cuts out. Fear it may be an uneconomical fix for a 53 plate if it's the pump?
