Default AA breakdown repair cover or warranty

OK so the car is out of warranty on 14th September and I've been pondering warranties etc..I've looked at warranty direct, click4warranty and tesco. There seems to be a load of small print in the terms and conditions and call me cynical but I think they would try and wriggle out of paying up! It will set me back about £20-£25 a month.
There is another option though. I am very interested in AA breakdown repair cover. I already have AA breakdown (relay and homestart) through my bank account and so the cover would only cost me £67 for the year. All you pay is £25 excess if the car has to be fixed at a garage and because I've got relay I can choose which garage. The servicing can be done at any garage even if it's not VAT registered and there are no mileage restrictions.
Also a good mate of mine is a mechanic, I can get loads of useful info on here and I have access to trade club discount on VX parts. This would be the case if there was a problem but didn't cause a breakdown. What do people think?? Should I be heading down the traditional warranty road??Has anyone had to use AA for this level of cover?? I have used them in the past for breakdowns and they are always spot on.
Or do I just put £20 or so away each month in an account and use this if anything happens? There seems to be an awful lot that can go wrong with the 1.9cdti and in the last year I have had anew EGR valve, alternator and front springs and shockers.

Hi, I had the AA breakdown cover on one of my previous Vecs, but it only pays up if you are recovered by the AA. Luckily i was on two occasions, 1st time the crankshaft pully gave up the ghost and the 2nd time the alternator failed (2.0 DTi) all it cost me was £25 a time. Not bad for £50 breakdown cover.

This breakdown repair cover does give you peace of mind I think and you know what you are getting with the AA. I forgot to ask her on the phone but would the cover still be valid abroad supposing you took out european breakdown cover?

I went down the warranty direct route and they wriggled out of cover like the worms they are,i am now trying to get out of that one but that costs £50.Deffo could not recommend it.The AA option does sound good but have just joined RAC so will check to see if they do something similar.

If you claim within the first 30 days of policy they dont cover bcos they say problem was likely there before hand, said it was in the faq book, which is like a noval, but one of their main quotes was cover from day one so contradictory.

I just think the AA sounds like me.......simple!!! There doesn't seem to be too many catches. Of course it's not strictly a warranty and can only be used for breakdowns
