Default Failed MOT! Number plate spacing +

In for MOT yesterday thinking exhaust might be a bit iffy.

When she said failed for number plate spacing

and exhaust emmissions. Would have to do tech 2 to find out reason.

Turned out to be cat failure. New cat would be £469.00 thank you very much!!

    Phoned around, Quikfit quote £606.00

EU quote £295.00 and fit it yourself.

Question. How long should a cat last. I'm at 61000 miles.

    Number plate.

probably not what you want to hear but I think they should be stricter on plates, some of the abominations I see are beyond belief.

Problem is that funny spacing can upset ANPR systems

"Not as bad as some" unfortunately isn't a valid argument though I'm afraid Tony. The rules are there and the tester has to follow them. Best thing to do is get a pair of Irmscher number plate holders and have a set of 'MOT' plates to hand

That is exactly why they are so strict on it. They wouldn't want to miss the chance of nabbing someone for £60 would they

And if some scrote has it on his toes with your pride and joy, those self-same ANPR systems might just pick it up quickly and have a nice 2.8T up behind it before you've had a chance to call your insurers.

    Double edged sword

As well as a black cap numberplate fixing between the 2 & 2 to try and make it look like 2.2

I wouldnt even drive past a Quik Fit, let alone actually ask them for a quote!! They'll arse rape you for the cat and then, just as you think it couldnt get any worse they'll try and tell you all 4 disc and pads are shot, the steering rack is shafted and 2 of the tyres are illegal!!

As for the lifetime of a cat.... who can say how long it takes to get through 9 lives?!
