    Question P1483 fault code

tried a few things and cant seem to clear this code.

after a lot of searching i found the following info on google, which says to reprogram the engine ecu with the lastest tech 2 mdi.

    does this sound right?
would i be able to get this done on the warranty supplied by the dealer i bought the car from?

one last question...does the code stored in the ECU have a date attached to it when read on tech2,as this would prove that the code was present when i purchased the car?

    TIA

If the fault is logged it may give a snap shot data of when it occurred

Depending on level of warranty it should be civered

rang the dealer and he said that its not covered

i told him that the fault had been there since buying the car and he says it wasnt,as he had been driving it about prior to me buying it.
so,i blagged it and told him the Tech2 would bring up a date of when the fault was 1st logged on the ECU and mentioned trading standards
funnily enough his attitude changed and asked me to see what my local Vx dealer says and get back to him and he would sort it.......we shall see

does anyone actually know where "relay 3" is,as thats what the fault code relates to.

as far as i'm aware the fan runs off 2 fuses 35 & 36 under the bonnet, both of which are fine

    what fix did you do?

both my vec c's have had this problem intermitantly, but it only shows itself in the winter, i am assuming its damp or condensation in a plug of some sort, becasue as soon as the weather warms up and its dry the problem dissapears until the winter again, the fans always work when and how they should, so dont think there is a major issue.

the trouble with mine is, even in the winter, it can go days/weeks at a time before it flashes up, then between 10 - 30 seconds later its back out again and stays out, so wouldnt know if i had fixed it or not lol

i changed the thermal fuse in the fan module(on the back of the fan housing),seemed fine for a day or so,but the spanner light flashes on/off,on/off or constantly on for a few miles,as it was before.

next plan is to go to a breakers and get a replacement fan/housing/module and see if that helps.

i cant see the the point in taking it to the dealer to get the ecu re-programmed,if the problem is still within the unit/wiring somewhere?

Have you tried wd40 on the engine ecu contacts. I had this problem years ago and doing this fixed it permanently.
