Can the tailgate light be turned off

I have an 03 signum and was wondering about the red light inside the tailgate can it be turned off.

I compete in working trails competitions with our dogs and the dogs need to be left in the car in there cage's when not being used.

I always leave windows and boot open but it bugs me that the red boot light stays on.
We can be in a field up to 9 hours and im a bit worried it would drain the battery.
And of course being an automatic you can't bump it.

It turns off automatically after something like 10 minutes.

The stereo does a similar thing with keys out of ignition.

Like if you leave the interior light(s) on, they go off after 20 mins, and the radio after one hour. Can't be sure but I think also that the 'boot unlocked' (rear numberplate) light goes out after a while as the boot auto locks. All clever stuff. Can't beat the auto closing windows if it starts raining (and the car's deadlocked and you have auto wipers) though.

Another nice touch is the velcro on the inside edge of the seat belt holder on the front passenger seat to deaden the sound of the seatbelt holder hitting the side of the passenger seat if that seat is unoccupied whilst you're driving!
