    Default The Sledgehammer Project.. 2007

    Do you remember this?

    >>>>>> Quoted from Regal back in 2007....

The Nardo car you see pictured was a joint project from us, EDS and Triple Eight.

The Nardo event was run buy AutoBild (Germany's version of Auto Express, which sells 5Million copies a week) and Continental tyres. The writers of Auto Bild contacted Chris down here at Regal, and Arno at EDS in germnay as to whether we would like to enter a tuned car that was capable of 300kph on the Italian test track and see how it compared to a number of other tuners or various other cars.

The most likely Vauxhall capable of the job was the Vectra VXR. We spoke to Vauxhall who kindly gave us (through Triple Eight the VXR you see above.

Then we set about upgrading the car, the only modifications were Saab intake pipes, a larger turbo setup, custom exhaust build and of course Arno's software re-map. With all the modifications in place the car was taken out on the german autobahns where it reached a GPS verified speed of 310kph

The Nardo Target was 300kph and it was Arno of EDS's job to do the run in the car (Chris was away in america at the time of the trial).

The car managed a speed of 277kph, not quite the 310 it had managed beofre, but when a Lamborghini Gallardo manages 296 then 277 is a very good effort indeed.

The best information for ourselves as a tuner was that the car was filled with fuel and managed to do 6 full speed laps of the 12mile Nardo test track without Arno feeling that the he should stop! The Highly tuned 800bhp upwards porsches and other cars were attempting single laps at full chat but finding that the temperatures were getting too high and bringing the car back into the pits for a rest and a few adjustments.

So the car has full genuine roadcar potential, we just have to find people mad enough to own a 200mph Vectra C!

Exactly... 888 Race Engineering (VXR Performance Centre) were supposed to produce this kit... I bought my Vectra VXR because of it !!... then it was shelved.

Just looked up the exact speed 310 kph coverts to = 192.6 MPH.. and this was GPS varified, so the speedo must have been off the clock as mine only goes up to 190 MPH

    That is some car !!
