Default Thinking of a car change

Right peeps, I've broke myself back into petrol ownership gently with the Astra Coupe 1.8 and the Volvo S80 2.4. Now I want a 'powerful' petrol car.

I'm going to go and look at another Volvo S80 this weekend. It's the 2.9 T6 twin turbo. Standard power is 272bhp & 280lbft, which aint too bad for a car that weighs less than the Vec C GSi. But what is more tempting is BSR can remap it to 321bhp & 456Nm.

I've set myself a budget of 6k, so what are the alternatives to this car?

What sort of age of car are you looking at? is it executive cruiser that your after?
Before getting my Signum I looked at Saab 9-5 and the last generation of 7 series. I decided in the end I wanted something new rather than the prestige!

I must admit, I do like big cruisers as I have family in Glasgow, London and Oxford that I visit reasonably regularly. I now want something a bit 'quick', if you know what I mean.

A Vec or Signum 3.2 V6 is very appealing, but it is a little limited on how much it can be tuned, so I'd go for the 2.0T and BSR it to the max.

My budget is 6k and I'm not bothered on age so long as it's not been to the moon and back. I'd considered a Jag 3.2 but simply isn't quick enough; The Saab 9-5 is a very capable car but for 6 grand I'd be limited to the 'dated' shape.

I think for the price and Volvo S80 T6 is a good buy as it ticks the boxes regarding performance and high spec, but it's obviously not the prettiest car in the world though. Any other alternatives?

You can find a Saab 9-5 2.3T HOT(250bhp) (PLated X-51) on autotrader for under 5K, If you dont mind a few more miles on it there is a 03 plate with 90k. See http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/SAAB+9-5/Ne-2-4-5-6-7-8-27-44-49-53-61-64-67-103-133-146,N-20-4294966627-4294967116/advert.action?R=200735294071467&distance=157&postc ode=cw9+6ey&channel=CARS&make=SAAB&model=9-5&min_pr=&max_pr=6000&max_mileage=.

Alternative wise Jag S Type 3.0V6 it wont break any speed record but should get you to 70 quick enough!

If you want something a bit mental and can stretch to it (7kish) i've always like the sound of the VW Passat 4.0W8 See http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk...=&max_mileage=

Alex - you can't go wrong with the Volvo - S80's are looking a little dated now, but if your after a good, fast, large comfortable car (and that one you've linked is specced to the nines!), then thats the car...servicing and parts are pricier than VX, but £ for lb......I'd take a Volvo anyday.....
