Default Loud knocking from Left Rear Wheel

Got up nice and early to do the xmas shopping this morning. Half past seven I started to drive off and heard some knocking from the rear whilst going over bumps. Thinking it was the pushchair in the boot, I carried on driving, until the knocking got seriously worrying.

Any the culprit was found! A 2 inch rusty nail straight through my brand new tyre!!!!!

The nice tyre man repaired it though as the damage was minor.

£13.26 and the knocking has gone!!!

Still havent fitted the wheel yet, and I have to say that the Vec C looks SH*TE with a space saver on!!!

I'll second that. Had a flat in stockport then had to do 50mph all the way back to N.liverpool.

Never want to do that again.

said he used a mushroom plug or something like that, and says it makes no difference to the life of the tyre....

    can anyone confirm this?

Did the car feel weird to you? Feels like every time i turn right the right rear (space saver) is leaving the road, mind you, the space save is a good few inches smaller

The mushroom plug looks like its name suggests

the large area of the plug is self adhesive, they then put a glue on the inside of the tyre, and a needle through the puncture, then they feed the pointy end of the plug into the needle ans yank it through the hole in the tyre, the 2 adhesives meet and stick like 541t, then they cut the end off level with your tyre tread

as long as its done properly, the air in the tyre will keep pushing the plug onto the glue

Tyre repairs should only be done in the repairable area
The normal method is what you have described and should last for the life of the tyre
From memory the maximum number of such repairs on one tyre is three, after that it is deemed non-repairable
