As the rear visibility of these cars is not great with the roof up, I decided to fit rear parking sensors.
But I didnt want to have red sensors plastered across the back of the bumper. So I decided to order them in matt black and fit them in the recess in the rear bumper so they are very subtle.
Here is the kit. I decided to go for the kit with dash mounted display, which is very much like the set up on my CLK. It also has the speaker on the dash pod, as a speaker in the boot of a convertible could be hard to hear.
The dash pod had to be painted matt black, so this was done and the dash pod fitted.
The on to the rear, I decided to strip the car to do it correctly.
All marked out for the sensors.
Now for the drilling!
The bumper was then removed to enable me to fit the sensors.
To keep the wiring neat and tidy, and as protected as possible, I decided to run it all through the crash protection foam which fits between the bumper and rear panel.
I then drilled a new hole in the rear panel to feed the loom through. I then fitted a grommet to ensure it all stays sealed.
I couldn't resist cleaning behind the rear lights!!
Once powered up, this is what you see on the display once in reverse with nothing behind you.
With the kind help of the Mrs, she walked up to the back of the car to enable me to test the system.
So job done!
I then decided to test the accuracy of the system to see how good it was. So I reversed to 1 meter away from my Audi.
Then I measured the distance with a tape measure. The idea is so that you can get some trust in the sensors.
Dead on 1 metre!! So very pleased!
So all done, another improvment to the car, which looks very subtle and OE, and all for the price of £22!!
