Alternator dying, best place to get one?

Looks like my alternator's finally bitten the bullet and is dying, I'm having to charge the battery every night just to get to work and back the next day, couldn't happen at a worse time to be honest, our finances have taken such a pounding with Amy not working since last June we're circling the drain financially right now so badly I'm barely sleeping with worry.

But I need my car for work and without me working we'll be in an even worse situation so I have no choice. So, looking for people's advice on the cheapest place to get a reconditioned 120A alternator for a Z20NET, anyone know of any good places that can deliver it pretty quickly other than eurocarparts?

have you rang your local dealer Ian? to se how much a new one wouid be? or is there a alternator specilist in your area cos there is a place here that will fit a recon whilst you wait or can refurb yours in a couple of days

Will be phoning my local dealer shortly, just waiting for the guy I normally deal with (who gives me incredible discount) to get in as he doesn't normally get in til about 10am. Still not expecting the price to be fantastic to be honest but you never know I guess.

Fitting it isn't an issue I can do that myself no bother, it's getting the alternator to me quickly and cheaply that's bothering me, this really couldn't have happened at a worse time for us.

Don't rule out ebay - there is a supplier on there (cannot remember the name) but he trades out of Burtwood, Staffordshire. Good prices and well regarded locally. Worth checking and it will give you a base price for comparison. Good luck Ian.

Thanks, I had a big redundancy payout last year and fell into a new job paying quite a lot more money quite quickly, but two months later Amy lost hers and hasn't been able to find one since. We've ticked along fine because of the money in the bank, but classic case of over-spending just because we had money at the time (and we both like spending money a bit too much) has now left us screwed. Without a loan for the wedding we're still paying off and the credit cards that are running up more each month because we have to basically live off them at the moment, we'd be fine, but there's no chance of me finding the sort of money needed to clear them. If Amy finds a job, we'll level off again pretty quickly but at the moment we're spiralling downwards fast.

It's why all big money projects on the car have been on hold for a while and I've just been doing little (cheap) things recently except stuff that I'd already bought the bits for months ago that I'm slowly working my way through now.

Just got my fingers crossed Amy finds work soon or we're going under, but the market is getting worse and worse out there at the moment.

As I say, bad timing for an expensive issue to happen with the car, but I've been expecting this to happen this year as the cars just approaching 60k and I do draw rather a lot more power off the old girl than it was meant for.

Thanks fella, I did have a quick glance at Ebay this morning but quickly discarded the idea as I just don't know or trust what I'm going to get or how quickly it will arrive but I'll have another nose and see if I can find the one you're talking about. Cheers
