    Default Special Constable

I applied to Cambridgeshire Constabulary before Chirstmas to be a Special Constable and received an email today saying that my application has been shortlisted and I need to confirm my date for the PIRT test.

I've done a bit of reading about the PIRT test and know what it involves (appears quite easy) but was wondering if there are any other special's or regulars on here that have been through it already? Any advice?

    Cheers

I've been through the Specials PIRT for Hampshire Constabulary- will you be doing the fitness test at the same time?

Out of our group of 25 or so candidates only one failed the fitness test so you don't really need to worry about that.

The maths is fairly easy- if you're not confident just go on the GCSE bitesize site for a bit.

The summarising exercise isn't that hard but just make sure you give yourself enough time after writing notes to finish writing your summary, and don't worry if you write a few words more than the maximum as long as you're getting the detail in and not waffling.

    Good luck with it mate.

a lot of the pirt test is designed to see how you handle pressure the test itself may have more questions than you can complete in the appropriate time available - jsut make sure you dont spend too long on the questions but READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST
it could save you time in the long run

Not sure if I'm doing the fitness test at the same time or not yet, they are asking me to confirm a date then they will give me more information.

fitness test will be force dependant - bleep test to level 7
flexiblity /grip test some sit ups standing jump -Body mass index might be checked - nothing difficult

the interview - just be yourself - be aware of current political and news topics - and try not to stereotype anyone - remember a police/special constable you still need to be impartial

i spent 3 years as a special before i joined the regulars and it was a great insight - spent more time doing the specials than i did at my regular job - which meant i was "accepted" a lot more than some others that did 4 hours a month

i used to get called in for covert surviellence and all sorts of things like drugs raids etc....

    but if you want fun.......

you could do my old firearms bleep test to level 10 in a respirator wearing the older plated body armour and carrying glock and mp5 - with a shoot directly after you finished

I spent ages preparing for the interview learning about the constabulary etc and it ended up being basically just on the competencies - make sure you have plenty of examples to back up what you say. Had a WPC Trainer and a TPT Inspector as the interviewers.

The Hampshire one was just bleep test and push/pull on dyno machines, from talking to a few other specials this seems to be the most common fitness test accross the UK.
