Default CSC - What a saga, and learning curve

Yes I'm still here ( for now )

Last Monday, coming back from a camping long weekend, went to turn off the main road a few miles from home and my foot went to the floor when I put the clutch in. Darn - CSC blown I realised. Limped home in 3rd and parked on the starter motor.

Went online to a well known parts supplier, and ordered an LUK one for next day. Eventually got that Thursday afternoon having had the engine out since Monday night !

Fitted Thu, and tried to bleed using an Ezibleed, same as I always have. Pedal went tight, then big bang and no feel at all. Oh sugar - blown that one ! Fluid dripping from bell housing

Ordered a cheap chinese one of Amazon, and the elbow. Got that Friday - wouldn't bleed at all. Had wife push pedal and no fluid flow. On looking under the dash I'd snapped the master cylinder actuating rod !!! Luckily I had a genuine new one in the stash. Changed it - still wouldn't bleed.

Saturday, wife off, so into town and bought a third CSC - another LUK. In the meantime I'd been doing some reading and saw comments on a Ford group saying you should only ever vacuum bleed CSC's and checking TIS there is a field remedy saying this, so I also picked up a vacuum bleed kit from Machine Mart

Hung engine in, bled easily, and steady rebuild Sunday. Car now 100% fault free !

She is on borrowed time now though - hopefuly moving on in a few months to an A5

Wow, what a saga! Fair play for sticking with it and getting the job done, sounds like a proper test of patience and persistence. That CSC clearly didn’t want to go quietly! Glad to hear the vacuum bleed sorted it in the end. I’ve heard mixed things about Ezibleed with CSCs, so it’s good to know TIS backs the vacuum method. And hats off for having a spare master cylinder rod in the stash, legendary prep! Hope the A5 treats you more kindly when the time comes. Until then, sounds like she’s running sweet again. Enjoy the drive!
