    Default My poor car/wallet :(

    my tyre:

this split runs right around the wheel

    What happened?

driving back to liverpool tonight, in outside lane of A1, hit some sort of object on the tarmac with both passenger side wheels......2 bangs. next thing, while travelling straight ahead my steering wheel is at a 3/4 angle (if you can picture that) & the car is pulling to the left. when i try to counter this the car just wobbles from left to right, followed by a teeth chattering vibration through the whole car.

i pull up at services to check the damage.....at 1st glimps from both the side & rear looks like a flat tyre rear passenger side, so i pull round to a place where i can get some light onto the wheel for the job of fitting the spare.

as i walk around the car this time the sight is a lot different..... the whole tyre has now shifted completely to the outside of the wheel & im now sitting on half rubber, half rim! f*#k!!!

after i jacked it up & took it off i found that the tyre had completely seperated itself from its sidewall on the inner side of my snowflake!!

this is a Continental tyre, has anyone else seen this happen???

on a seperate note, notice also in the third pic how the right hand (outide) side of the tyre has worn right down & not the inside?

I know what everyone will think to this straight away, but i checked my rear drivers side & the same problem does not exist, so i cant understand that one

    Scary stuff

You did really well to keep the car under control and not spin out and cause a nasty accident.

If you hit something that caused sidewall damage, at speed, the split could easily go all the way around within seconds, so not really the tyre's fault.

The tyre went flat and it was driven on and this caused the s/wall to be cut,if you look in the photos the rim of the wheel is shiny where it's been in contact with the tyre,HTH

Sorted. wasnt so wallet crippling after all

VX were f*#king useless!! so havent even made the tyre claim. foned around all my nearby kwik fit's, none had the tyre in & wouldnt have one til monday (no good as im going back to norfolk tomorrow)!!

so as a last resort a quick call to Top Gear Tyres in Ellesmere Port & they had in a replacement Continental 235/35 ZR19 (part worn but still 6-7mm of tread). GREAT!!

So after a trip to them i now have a near new tyre on, & all for £65 fitted!!!

Not bad, I suppose a part worn is best as it will match the other side.

Glad your ok though, it sounds a little bit of a hairy few seconds !
