Question Bulb failure warning for factory Xenons?

    Hi everyone,

Once again I'm pondering various aspects of fitting Xenons to my car...

Here's a question for anyone with factory fitted xenon or bi-xenon/AFL headlamps: Do they have the bulb failure warning system for the xenon bulb or just the halogen bulbs?

    Thanks.

Of course it's very easy for a human to detect that bulbs aren't producing any light

What I'm wondering is: Do the car electronics detect failure of a xenon bulb, and if so, how do they do it?

Indeed, how do xenon bulbs fail? (glass breaking, gas leakage, ...?)

    Steve,

Yes the car electrics will detect the failure of the xenons..If it can't get then to light it'll flag a faultcode..

So Gsi3.2, can it detect the failure of an "off" bulb, or can it only detect failure when it tries to turn the bulb "on"?

The bulb failure seems to work against the lighting system 'knowing' the electrical load being applied to the curciut..So if the load isn't what it expects..like a blown bulb, or a bulb that's not fitted or even a trailer kit then it will flag a fault..

I understand this is the reason that the towbar kits have to be TECH2'd to the car, to advise the lighting 'computer' that there will be a differnt load being applied to what the base standard is..

Mine flagged up a failed headlight bulb ( non Xenon ) on the brightest, sunniest day of the year. It said simply " check left low beam bulb " Sure enough, swithced it on and it wasn't working.
