    Default First MOT booked in for tomorrow. Few questions

    After a year of loyal service, the Vectra is booked in for its first ever MOT tomorrow. She's a 1.9 CDTI (150) with 66k on the clock and no noticably major problems. Hopefully she will fly through it but I have a couple of queries if anyone can help me out with them.

    Firstly, a rear break light has been replaced several times with standard off the shelf bulbs and they all seem to be considerably dimmer than the factory fitted bulb. Is there a special bulb I should be going for and will they fail me on MOT for a dim bulb? I suppose I could ask the garage to change it before MOT.

    Secondly, I have a couple of hairline scratches in my windscreen. You can opnly see them in certain lights but they can occassionaly draw your eye. I knowa crack overa a certain length is failable but are hairline scratches and if they are is there anything I can polish them out with myself?

    Fingers crossed she gets through it as she's been nothing but a pleasure to drive in the last year.

    Thanks for any input, its appreciated.

    The stop lamps could well be failed if they are deemed by the tester to be 'not in good working order' as defined by section 1.3.2b of the testers manual, which states;

    (Any stop lamp)
    that is incomplete, not in good working order or in clean condition, ie so damaged or deteriorated that its function is impaired

    As for the windscreen, from what you describe, you should get an advisory at the most.

    Good luck
