Default riot shield sledging police officers

Cops from Oxford where reprimanded for using their riot shields as sledges, Im sure the locals would have found it funny the cops where having a good time.

Surely it was good community interaction. Showing that everyone can have fun and let their hair down. IMO joining in with the locals is one way of showing a positive police presence? They are human after all.

I can't say I have a big problem with what they were doing, just a tiny one with what they were doing it with. I wonder if using the shield in this way would cause damage, and repairs or replacement would be at public expense.

The Police, despite the hard exterior (which does them no favours sometimes) are a right bunch of lads, they play practical jokes on eachother and generally have a good laugh. I think the public needs to see a bit more of this, they are after all just normal people with a job to do.

My BIL was in the TVP until he & my sis emigrated to Canada (year before last), where he joined the Canadian Police. He's told me several stories over the years, one was in the press at the time (car stopping 'snooker') but I've just remembered this one, which made me chuckle. The aim was for a traffic car to get as far outside their area as possible, with proof. This went on for some time, until one guy nipped over to France on the ferry and brought back some booze. He got caught, severely told off, and the game ended.
