Default what are the first signs of an EGR valve failing?

i bought my 1.9cdt club 150 (05) with 101,000 on the clock. i do not know much about cars. bu since joining vectra c owners club ive obviously found out about common faults. as far as im aware the EGR on my car has never been changed or cleaned what are the first signs of an EGR valve failing?
the only probs ive encountered are very rarely while coming to a junction & engaging the cluutch the revs will drop below 500rpm but return to normal before the engine cuts out. very slight (and i mean very slight not even a mm) rev needle bouncing when cold? and the engine seems to run pretty rough while the air con is on at idle. could this be a sign of the egr on its way out?

The engine running pretty rough when the aircon is on is a good sign that you need to have the No.3 injector wiring/connector mod done. An EGR that is choked up may cause a drop in power and throttle response. If it gets too bad that it is seized up with gunk and cant work, then it will throw up an EML on your dashboard

ok mate. starting the car is fine. bit tappy when cold but what diesel isnt. & for the mileage she flys. i drove my old mans mates 09 sri cdti 150 a couple of months back & i could notice hardly no difference in power, just a little smooother.
would a local garage know how to do this, & roughly how much would it cost?
also could u let me know if this would affect performance & and/or cause damage if left?

Dont know about the 1.9cti but on my 2.2dti the egr has had it and i'm looking at £306+vat to have it replaced .
My tickover kept going up and down, lack of power before turbo kicked in and the eml light was the final give away

Sounds very pricey, my EGR went last year but i found info in this forum and cleaned it out myself, takes an hour or two but saves a fortune. If you're not that confident to recondition you're own a few auction sites have them for sale at peanuts compared to vauxhall dealers.

took the egr off and gave it a good clean today. was caked in crap. i left the solenoid as the pin was moving freely. the intake where the egr bolted to the head was the worst. suprised anything was getting through. the car runs alot smoother now & picks up better
