Looking to buy a Vectra diesel sri 06 - Advice needed

Hi,

I currently own a mk4 Astra petrol and because I now do 100 miles a day, I am looking to get a Vectra sri diesel.

A I am new to diesels and the vectra, I have a few questions. I went to see a vectra 06 sri for sale today because of the low price the seller was offering the car for. The car has only done 37,000 miles and it is being sold for £5,200. Here is the link: http://bit.ly/8UhZ9h. Apart from the low price I have noticed a few things. Firstly when I rest my foot on the clutch, you can feel a noticeable vibration coming from the clutch. I have driven a few cars and never felt this. Is this normal on a vectra? Changing gears also felt very different. This could be because I am used to the Astra.

The car was advertised as 150ps but the car was originally a 120ps. The seller said that he changed it recently at a garage called Rev.....? in Bradford. I am wary of things like these because I dont think it is a simple upgrade. Her said that the computer was modified/changed or something. Does something smell fishy about this?

The issue is the price seemed a bit low compared to the other cars for sale considering the cars age, spec and mileage.

How many mpg does this car do on the motorway? Some say 40 something some say 50 something and some say 60. Which is it?

Could any vectra experts advise me?

I think that's the DMF going, the rattle on the clutch, think the repair is about 300-500 quid or something, pretty sure someone will 'firm it for ya. And as for the 120-150 BHP, I don't think that's true, he could have had it remapped, but I don't think he'd have gained 30 BHP from it? Would be wary of this car mate.

definately the dual mass flywheel

but there a little more expensive than quoted above , nearer the £1000 mark as the parts from stealers alone are £500

i would walk away if it sounds too good to be true it usually is

My Rule is if somethings been to bradford dont buy it !

Doesnt sound the best if buys once the surface has been scratched in my opinion

The Vectra C and Vectra D are quite bad for their Dual Mass Flywheels. I know a lot of taxi drivers who have converted their Diesels back to Single Mass Flywheel. I know that Dual Mass Flywheels were introduced because diesels have a lot of torque and that the Dual Mass Flywheel helps to smooth out the power, but they have just been problematic on the Vectras. Mines is going too

Must be a C facelift, Ive asked this before but are these flywheels on petrol SRIs aswell or just Diesels ???

Yes everything from some Fords to Mercedes have Dual Mass Flywheels on their Petrol Cars

Think it may be a dog mate DMF is shot and it will most likely be a 120 thats been boxed.To actually convert a 120 to a 150 would mean an engine change as the 120 is an 8 valve and the 150 is a 16 valve.Hth.I have the 150cdti and i get 45 and 55 mpg on average.

P.S. if your in the market for a new car i would prob look at alternatives to the vec they can be a bit tempremental but then i supose other makes have their issues to?
