    Default higher premium for child?

can any one explain to me why the isnurance premium goes up when you state you have a child?
and do you have to tell them you have a child? whats the point! sure if your in an accident and the kids in the car god for bid then maybe that makes a differance but so far for me its a £200 of a differance! holy ****!

Not exactly how it works ...

The premium goes up as your responsibilities go up, dependants can excessively inflate an insurance company's claim cost should, God forbid, anything happen to you in an accident where you're left unable to support your dependants.

Would not have thought it would go up by as much as £200.00 though, compare you new cover schedule against last years cover schedule. If nothings obvious there then give your insurers a ring and ask for an explanation.
