Default irmy grill air intake cover?

    hi,

i have just completed the air box mod, followed the great step by step instructions "cheers"

Whilst i was under the hood had a nose round, i followed the air intake to behind the bonnet grill and found a plastic/rubber cover fitted to the grill which covers the main air box intake! i believe this will reduce the air supply to the airbox? the idea of the airbox mod is to allow more/ free air avaliable to the engine!

i have removed the cover behind the grill will this cause me any problems??
not had the chance to go out for a good test run yet!

Anyone else found this helps/ or not?

Grabbed a bargain on e bay, silver indicator bulbs to loose the orange tint to the headlamps. only £3.99 all in. my local factors wants nearer to £12.!!

    looks great simple cheap mod!

Again once my signum is repaired and polished photos will be posted!

    cheers Woosta!

    cheers Woosta!

Removing the plastic trim will allow water to be forced up to the air filter while driving in the rain, it may cause you some problems in heavy rain

how long is the intake tube? did a similar mod when i had my Focus, it did make a difference (or maybe that was the placebo effect!) and there were no problems in any weather. all it took was the fitting of an air deflector from the 2.0 auto...

This has the potential to be a good free mod, surely?

That trim on the back of the grill seems to be specific to the diesel engines - so there must be a reason for it. It's been discussed before but I think the reason is that water getting into the engine in a diesel is bad news. I'd be inclined to keep it on as it's obviously there for a reason.

Steinmetz make a different grille for the deisels, must have this incorparated in it ? If the irmscher doesn`t then it must be ok to remove it (or it`s a huuuuge oversight on Irmschers part?)

*edit* Just noticed you say Irmy grille in your title, do they do a different grille for oilburners then ?

no they don't do a different grille for diesels

I noticed this bit on my 1.9 CDTi when removing my original grille, I'm now thinking of sticking it back on

Put it back before you go anywhere else in it. Just my opinion mind, I took it off, thought it was great for a bit, but put it back on sharpish, when I realised I was shooting a hosepipe up it when I was washing it! It's probably there for a reason, so shouldn't be removed!
