"Spanner Light"

Hi Guys

Well took the car out for a spin this afternoon and the dreaded spanner light came on on start up

Then after about 2 mins in went off

Now when I turn the ignition key the spanner light comes on then goes off when the engine is fired up and running I tried this a couple of times and the same thing happens

Any suggestions as what's causing this?

I did wonder about the glow plugs....I did the heated Washer jets on Sunday do you think that may have something to do with it ?

If the spanner light is going out immediately after start-up a previous fault has been recorded which is no longer present. The light will clear itself after a certain number of trouble-free starts, and it could have just been a glitch. If the fault reoccurs then the light will obv. not clear itself and you'll need to get the codes read to know where to start looking.

I don't think there is much merit is guessing what has put the warning on. If it comes on continuously, then get the code read. If it keeps going off after a few seconds then it will eventually clear, or you could try disconnecting the battery for half an hour to see if it clears.

Me again.

Used the Vec a couple of times today,on start up this morning the light came on again went out after about 5 mins. Other times when started it has gone out as soon as the engine fires.

Car always starts on first turn of the ignition after the glow plug light has gone out, and runs perfectly it's just the light that's annoying

I'll disconnect the battery tomorrow and see if that clears the fault code.

OK,

Spanner light still lighting up and after a couple of mins goes off.

I have tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting an hour or so later and The light still comes on!

Other than that the car runs perfectly

Any other Ideas before I go to the dealers

Not sure if I mentioned the cars 05MY 1.9cdti Elite Estate

You need to get the code read, it could be simple or expensive. I think guessing could be counter productive.

You don't need to go to the dealer to get the code read. Are you in AA / RAC etc? They can do it for you, just ring up and say there is a problem with the car and the light is on and that it isn't running quite right....

Ive just started getting the same, spanner light coming on from start up, then going off after about 5 mins, then hats it until start up again. Not noticed any problems with car whatsoever, thought it might be down to weather.
