    Default 1.8 air fiter mod.

Wondered if someone could give me a bit of advice on a air filter mod for my 1.8.It has the flat spot that us 1.8 owners know only too well.Is it just a straight forward filter change,or something more complicated such as a bolt on thingy? All advice welcome, including prices and where best to get them from etc,thanx.Steve.

Hi Mate, the 2 mods I know of are induction kits and panel filters. Ive got a k&n panel filter (about £45), and the air box modded...quite simple to do, this seems to have got rid of the flat spot. As for induction kits Im not too sure how they improve things..Im sure other members with 1.8 engines will be along to give you more advice. You can also check out the petrol engine tuning section, there will be some more info in there...

    Cheers, Bob.

What are the symptoms of your 'flat' spot? I asked this question on another thread and got only one reply (3-4k). I think I must be lucky but have a K&N panel but don't notice any particular flat spot. Perhaps a K&N panel cures it!

Ive ordered the k&n after speaking with bobbyboy. If it dos'nt cure it ill do the box mod.The symptoms are on exceleration,between,3000,and 4000 revs it just goes, err, well flat, then picks up again.I know the 1.8 is not exactly quick on exceleration anyway, but the flat spot is quite noticeable even so.

If you're changing the filter, have a look at the underside of the one you take out, you'll find half of it nice and clean and the other half minging. This is because of the extra bit of pipe that only allows half the filter to be used. When you see the state of the filter, reconsider doing the airbox mod on the spot.
