    Default Which Torque Wrench chaps?

    Hello all again,

I want to buy a torque wrench as a lot of problems with car's always refer to torque setting and I havent got one.

I want a cheap and cheerful one that will withstand come pressue but at the same time will not snap at first attempt.

Dont have a great deal of use for it ATM, but one for the future, so cheap and cheerful is right up my street!

    What you recommend fella's?

As above, draper is a great make. But to be honest, My current one cost only £5/10 from Lidls, of all places and has great length which makes it easier to undo stubborn nuts, obviously lol and its been great....

I bought it in prep for my HG change on the 2.2 Vec B and it got put through its paces. I certainly wasnt expecting much from it but it still works to this day !!

One of the pulleys on the 2.2 was the hardest nut ive ever had to break, so even had to make my own extension, and it still did the job.

I got the one in Argos about 10 years ago just for wheel nuts (I had a company car back then) and it's been fine.

The main issue with cheap ones is that they don't come with a certificate the proves they were tested for accurancy before leaving the factory. Still, a torque wrench with no certificate is probably better than none at all. If I were buying now, I'd go for one with a certificate.

If you want to know when Aldi or Lidl will be doing car stuff, sign up for their newsletters via their websites. That way you get to hear about all of their twice-weekly specials, car-related or not. I think Lidl is doing some car stuff around now...

Will def keep my eyes peeled out. I do get the Lidl, Aldi and Netto emails, but of recent they have not been of interest so I simply stopped checking them and deleting them !

Will continue to pay attention from now on in!

You pays your money and takes your choice, you won't find a one size does all torque wrench, I use three myself ...

    • 1/4" square drive screwdriver handle type, accepts a 200mm tee bar too, 1-40Nm (.75-30 lb ft).
    • Gordon 1/2" square drive x 18" torque wrench 20-250Nm (20-180 lb ft)
    • Gedore 1/2" square drive x 18" breaker bar with a Draper 360° angular gauge

If you really are looking for a universal do it all torque wrench I'd recommend a 3/8" square drive that calibrates from 7-112NM (5-83 lb ft), it'll be a little hit and miss on the lower torque settings, then pick up an angular gauge as and when you need one.
