Default removal and replace cdti injector

Got a horrible diesel smell coming into my car and on investigation found that number 2 injector was pasing combustion air up past the injector seal so out comes the injector like this. Remove the clip that holds the leak off pipes. I did it on 1 & 2 injectors and remove the wiring plugs, Also move the harness out of the way. Next job is to undo the pipe to the injector 14 and 13mm spanner. Next is to undo the clamp bolt that holds the injector in, this is a 10mm allen key and has a plain washer and a conical washer under it. Injector was a bit tight so you have to waggle it about abit untill it is loose enough to pull straight out. You need to support the clamp as it comes out also as it jams up and stops the injector from coming out. As you can see in picture the copper washer had failed and there is a black mark on the injector sealing face where gasses were escaping. Injector was caked in carbon crud so wire wheeled it but must not touch the nozzle as can affect spay pattern. Copper washer wasn't too clever and couldn't get hold of one as it was sunday when I did it (today!) so used a trick to soften it up which it to get blow torch on the washer and heat it up, then rubbed it flat on emery cloth on a flat surface which recovered it. There was a fair amount of deposits in the cylinder head hole which I carefully cleaned out. Put it all back together and bingo no leaks or smells, didn't replace any parts at all

Thank you, people have been scaring the life out of me on this. Some telling me to watch out for the pressure as injector could fly out and hit me on the "chin". I also saw people removing the entire top half, i'm a paper pusher that likes to fiddle cos i'm cheap. You looked like you unclipped, unclipped, unscrewed and pulled. My reason for doing this is because i'm also getting fumes in the car. I tried the egr clean and mod, no joy but less smoke at motorway speeds. Now will try this before the exhaust manifold change. Will be giving this a go as soon as it gets warmer, brothers hibernate in winter. Thanks once again

    Hi
I have a vectra 54 plate 1.9 cdti and have had the smoke coming from the injecter number one with a loud ticking noise. Do you think im lucky enough to get away with a broken seal or need to replace the injecter completely. If so does anyone know of a cheap place to source one from ?
