Unhappy vectra c 2.2 dti sri fuel pump problem

Hoping someone can help i recently brought a 02 vectra 2.2 dti sri but after a couple of days i started to notice an occasional lack of power while driving, ive spoken to some people including someone who has worked at vauxhall and all have said it will be the fuel injector pump but i have also been told that the pumps on the vectra c's can not be repaired at all and that i will have to buy a new one from vauxhall for about £1900 + VAT ive also been told that vauxhall are the only people who can fit these pumps as they have to be programmed, im currently away on work so have not been able to look into it but the car is with my father in law who has been trying to get some info so if anyone has any info or can help in any way it would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

Obviously you have heard alot of rumors.
IF it was the pump, normally it will stop immedeatly. The high pressure fuel pump on the DTi is not bad at all, but is a bit sensitive for loss of lubrication (no diesel, or very bad quality diesel), and the electronic has toasted itself. So dont you worry about the pump for now.
There is many other possible faults, many of the typical ones cheap or even free to fix, if you are a little handy.

First of all you should start with telling how the engine is running. Tell all you can think of. Is it OK to start? Does it run uneven? Any fault lamps (car and spanner sign). Idling OK? Does it revv, when not in gear? What about temp? Does it get warm as it should? Does it revv when in gear? At which RPM does it lack of power?

    Best of luck

I agree be careful, many garages will often tell you it needs a new pump and it does not and as you know they can be expensive. The pipework can often be a problem and the lack power might be air entering the system, I speak from experience.

If you do need a pump get someone to take it off and send it to the specialist in Southhampton for reconditioning and then have it refitted, it will cost half of what you have been quoted.

Try to find a good specialist (not a dealer) and have them check everything else very thoroughly before paying out for a new pump. A old Vectra B of mine needed two pumps, a nightmare indeed.

What they both said - the fuel pump is the last resort because it's expensive and there are other things that cause the problem that you have.

Do some searching of this forum and you will turn up a lot of posts regarding common issues with the DTI, many of which are free or cheap to check out yourself.

dont know much about the diesel engines but just replaced regulator on my 2.2 direct petrol, and what a difference. the power it used to have is back. didn't really notice first of, but i just knew it wasn't running right and power was dropping of over a period of time. i will replace fuel pump but will wait until i have the funds, not as expensive as a diesel mind.
good luck with find the source of the problem fella and lets hope it a cheapish fix.

hi mate thanks for replying sorry i haven't got back to you but of been away on work, everything with the car seems to be fine it starts everytime, the temps fine, the car and spaneer sign does come on and off but it only comes on once the car has warmed up, the problem seems to happen when driving the car in higher revs ill be driving along then all of a sudden it will lose all power but i keep my foot on the pedal then it will kick in again, apart from this everything else is fine, any ideas will be hugely appreciated. Thanks

It sounds like a sensor somewhere kicking in. You would benefit from getting it Tech2 diagnosed as that should help pinpoint.

Turbo pressure boost sensor is a common one to go.

Some of the forum members may be able to help with the diagnosis but find out how much your local dealer would charge for plugging it in.

My mate has had 2 safira's with the 2.0 dti enginge where the Tech 2 had flaged up critical pump failure and it turned out to be the , crank sensor. Then it ran fine.

if the car starts and runs the pump will be fine they only ever fail into a none run state ...the only othe time you will have to change the pump is if the engine ecu has gone faulty due to it beeing part of the fuel pump .......i would start wityh very simple things is there oil in the sump and is it on the mark ....is there any air leaks from the intake pipes and is there any vacume leaks from the small vac pipes that lead from the vac pump then have it tested to get a code and see what diag route to go down no good stripping and cleaning sensors if it isnt gonna do anything ....
