    Default hand brake

Any one got any ideas about this
just got back from holiday the other day car was parked up for a fortnight drove car home and smoke was coming from the rear drivers side. ive only had chance to look today the hand brake is not releasing the pad fully from the disk causeing it to bind and generate heat. ive greased the caliper still doing it i also noticed a bit a go that the hand brake leaver was clunking when you pulled it up now i know why its not fully releasing . as you look at the caliper where the brake cable is if you move the bracket by hand that the cable is connected to it will free the disk. hopefully its something or nothing and any advice from you guys will help me to sort it rather than have to take it to the dreaded dealers.

This happened to my girlfriends corsa, we only had the car out the garage for about 15 mins, on our way home with it She overtook me on the motorway & straight away i could smell fumes, we just happened to be approaching our cut off at this point and as soon as she stopped at the junction i could see smoke coming out from the o/s/r wheel arch I foned the garage up & had a wee over the fone with a salesman. Got the aa to come & put it on the back of a truck and take it back to them, apparently it was caused by the handbrake being tightened a bit too much - sorted now though !

On my own car, last week i noticed a bit more noise than usual from my brakes on the vec, then i also noticed the n/s/r brake disc was waaay hotter than the rest & the actual alloy was roasting as well, so i got it checked out & it was the piston that was sticking causing the excess noise/heat !!

Thats just my experiences though i'm no mechanic, i let other folk fix my motors

If you have the tools mate, wind the piston on that caliper back in..it will then auto-adjust itself again.. if not, or if it adjust's itself incorrectly then it's into the dealers.. a clunking handbrake lever will not affect the calipers operation..it's only clunking because of wear in the ratchet's..
