Default Genuine GM or Pattern Parts???

Hi guys, I'm going to be getting the cambelt and water pump changed on my GSI soon but I wanted some opinions on whether to use genuine GM parts or aftermarket.

    Here are some figures -

Genune GM Cambelt kit for approx £150 vs a Gates Cambelt kit from LMF for approx £100. I've heard good things about Gates kits but is it worth saving the £50 on such a vital component?

Genuine GM water pump for approx £140 vs a pattern part on eurocarparts for approx £30. This is huge difference in price and I'm worried a £30 water pump won't last very long. So which one should I opt for?

    Thanks

Gates belts are fine, never had any problems with them, as long as the pattern parts are a well known brand they will be up to the job. Remember that VX needs to buy their parts from someone too and all they do is stick their stamp on them.
In some cases pattern parts can be better than gen stuff, take the springs for example

Thanks for that - a v good point about the springs! Any idea of a good brand of after market water pump for the GSI?

I always give my cambelts to Vauxhall dealerships to do - it's such a vital component that if it does go wrong, I get a new engine...
