Default Newbie wants an SRI cdti auto but which one ????

    Hello,

I've recently joined the forum as i fancy a Vectra SRI cdti. Due to medical reasons I'm afraid its got to be a Diesel but i cant decide which is the best to go for. I understand that there are two engines available to me,a 120 and a 150. Untill i came on here i thought i wanted the more powerfull one but i sense on here that the 120 might be the better one but i dont know why or how to tell them apart. The cars I'm looking at are 2005/6 cars ,is there anything else i should be looking for by way of spec or potential problems?
    Any info would be appreciated.

    Cheers Gaz

oh lol fair enough, to be honest the diesels seem to be more trouble than they are worth! how about a 1.8 petrol? probably cheaper in the long run after reading about the cdti's on here! i may be wrong, shame if im not though as i love the way the 150 cdti drives

    Vehicle : Golf 7

Get the 120 it is the better reliability wise. The 150 has manifold issues, egr issues and for some reason some have a problem with the 3rd injector wiring loom. Not terribly sure if the wiring loom only affects the 150 though.

I'd say get which ever comes up... i was looking for a decent 150 for ages, in the end got a 2.2...

If your set on an auto box i'm guessing its going to be even harder to find a decent one, so i wouldn't bother being too picky to be honest...

although there are people with issues with the 150 on here, remember people come to forums to sort out issues. There are thousands of 150s out there with no issues at all. 150 gets a bad press on here which I think is a little blown out of proportion.

    I have a 150 and love it.

The 120 is a good compromise. Not bad performance but the mpg figures are not that different. The 150 for sure has better residuals as most want the 150. But either are a good engine. I am on my 4th now and can't rate them highly enough. As for Auto, I am sure the Auto is only available as a 150, but I could be wrong.

What an over the top statement. There is nothing wrong with either the 1.9 120 or 150. There are far more out there that have had no problems than those that do have problems.

Many people only sign up to forums when they do have a problem. I can speak from more experience on here than any other 1.9 owner.

Most early cars that may have suffered with EGR and manifold swirl flap issues have not been cured from the repairs under warranty.

Late cars, from 57 plate onwards don't tend to suffer. But as said above, on the whole the 1.9 is not a problem.
