Loads of threads on this but 215/50/17 or 225/45/17.

Do cheap at your own peril.

Cheers mate, If i change from 215 50 17 to 225 45 17 does it affect anything. There seems to be more choice. I just want decent grip really

One or the other mate, never going to get both. For decent 225/45/17 I'd budget around 80 quid a tyre - I personally swear by Vredesteins but everyone has their own opinion...

Buy cheap if you want, but don't say we didn't warn you when you plough it into a tree...

What sort of mileage do you do?
What is the budget you have, per tyre?

If you simply want to save money, I would suggest you look at staying with the 215/50R17 but look at the budget brands
This can save you up to 30%

If you want to save more money, swapt to 225/45R17 and the budget brands
This can save you up to 60%

If you want to retain performance, I suggest you consider swapping to 225/45R17 but look at equivalent tyres
The example here is from Good Year NCT5 to Good Year Eagle F1 Assymetric
This will save you about 20%

I do about 15000 a year and have a budget of about 70 a tyre. Ive been looking on ebay and like the look of kumho tyres but load index is 94 and ones i have on are 91 and dont know what this means.:-)

94's are ok, they are extra load - means they can handle more weight. They will make the ride a tiny bit more harsh though.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Not really, they will make you speedo read about 1mph faster than you are actually going but thats about it. It will over read by 2-3mph anyway so just means its that little bit safer
