    Default 1.9cdti 150 thermostat replacement

    Hi all.
Has anyone changed a thermostat on a 1.9cdti 150 and if so how difficult was it? I am getting a thermostat from the stealers tomorrow and going to replace it. I did the one on my 1.8 petrol and it was a breeze. Is the 1.9 any different?
    Many Thanks

not that hard the thermostat is on the right hand side of the engine take off the air pipe on the right and its on the side of the block with the radiator hose coming off it and a electrical connector which is the temp sensor. you will have to bleed the coolant system once you have chaged it but if needed you might aswell replqace your full coolant if needed. hope this helps its not that difficult just a few general tools is needed.

    hope this helps

Changed mine on a 120 1.9 cdti on a Signum. What a b**ch to do. Remove the battery to get access. Then try to remove the heat exchanger. VX say its held on by 2 bolts!!!!
What about the third one at the back that you can't see?
Any no its fitted the temp gauge shows 84-86 after about 5 miles, and the fuel consumption on me 26 mile trip to work has risen from 43 to 51 mpg.

did mine a few weeks back, did not loose much coolant needed about 2 litres, (bought pink stuff from vx) did not need to disconnect or remove battery. came with a paper gasket but not needed as thermo has "o" ring. did not take long and has had a marked difference to car. I knew nothing about needing to blled system and mine was fine but when I read somewhre else it whould be done I did it but think I didn't really need to as no air came out. bleed valve is on shiny pipe at front of engine small black thing.

16v's are much easier than 8v's

as my coolant was shiny and pink did not feel need to change it so just topped up what was lost

Did mine a few weeks ago, as Veralum said pretty straight forward and approx 2l of coolant to refill afterwards. -Bleedeing is essential, otherwise no heat inside the car. (That is wat happend to me.....)
I removed the battery and plastic-case for battery. Only 2 bolts connects the thermostat to the engine, but the hanger for the lower plastic coolant-pipe makes removal and refit a bit of pain. (Z19dth engine)

Normal engine temp is 85-88 after new thermostat, 5-10 minutes to warm up if normal driving.

    Thanks guys.
Changed thermostat yesterday and all went well. I didn't need to remove battery just airpipe and a rather large silver control box and then remove pipes and remove thermostat. I replaced it with a genuine VX one and replaced the lost water with 2 litres of anti-freeze (the VX stuff ) and bleed the system. Sadly no gain was had. It still takes ages to heat up and when I put heaters on full it slowly brings water temp down to cold and heater then becomes poor and will only heat up when I turn heater off. MPG crap 37 MPG. Only had car about month but can't see me keeping it to long with this really poor MPG. Contacted VX who are not interested 1 little bit. ******s !!!

mine seems to run at 85 in this weather , seems to takes ages to get there compared with my 2.2 petrol omega, but diesels have heavier engines so think this is normal, heater is hot long before gauge moves
