If the cable is still attached just pull the whole handle out as if you were riping it out. The 2.2 is very open underneath. If you can get it on ramps you might be able to get your hand up and realise the spring.

you cant as the bumper covers the bottom of the radiator where the striker is directly above

if it dont open by pulling the cable. ty this

    1. jack up car
    2. remove the bumper
    3. remove the bottom radiator mounts(this gives you a couple more inches to get your hand in)
    4. Reach up the front of the radiator and pull the rubber/plastic cover which covers the striker. Pull it towards the front of the car over the top of the radiator.
    5. Lying down uder the car looking up using a torch between the radiators, you will now see the lock and striker
    6. whilst holding the torch. Use your other hand with a long screwdriver to go from the front over the top of the radiator to undo the lock.

Problem is 2 of the fittings for the bumper are inside the bonnet, you might be able to swing the bottom out though. With your Irmy grill you have more room to play with, you might be able to get in through the grill with some curved pin noes pliers and undo the spring.
