    Default Warranty Direct Claim

I know know, I've heard all the horror stories about this company and I went and bought a warranty anyway.

I've had a heater matrix (£200) and wheel bearing (£200) replaced already this year and the warranty was £230 and covered most of the more exp items. so I thought I'd give it a go.

Lo and behold engine management light came on yesterday, then car went on to safe mode and engine was vibrating heavily . left the car where it was and went back after a couple of hours. started fine, no lights. but this morning the lights are on again.

So on the phone to warranty direct who sent me to a Nationwide Autocentre. Spoke to the chap at nationwide who was actually quite helpful and after dropping the car off he assured me he would do whatever he could to get the company to cough up the repair costs. got a call at around 4pm saying their Diagnostics wasn't reading the car systems so they would need to get a specialist in, in the morning. but initial thoughts are on dodgy coil pack. Mr nationwide charged me £57 for Diagnostics which he said warranty comp would refund if they foot the bill for repair (kind of sceptical)

but he'll confirm fault in the morning and get authorisation for the repairs

So fingers crossed and see how it goes.

btw, what are coil packs (excuse my ignorance)

Instead of having the old traditional coil and distributor, you will have a 'twin coil wasted spark' ignition system (was on the vecta B's too) and no distributor.

The cylinders are paired (for a 4 cyl engine) in a 1&4, 2&3 configuration.

When the coil fires (upon request from the ECU) then both of the cylinders in the pair recieve a spark, even though you only need a spark in the cyl that is 'charged', hence the name 'wasted spark'

Once the Diagnostics are connected up, they ought to have a good idea where the fault lies.

Without the diagnostics plugged in the list of things it could be are (in no particular order):

    Engine ECU
    Coil Pack
    Plugs
    Plug leads (HT Leads)
    Wiring to the coil

I had one go on a 6 cyl Omega, the water had run off the bulkhead and shorted it out, the symtoms were misfires, never packed up altogether though, cost about £120 trade Vx if i remember correct, when it did start to run rough and pack up altogether though it was the crank sensor.

I've had a look at other companies too, and you're right this one seemed the best. Make sure you read all the small print before hand and ensure your happy with what it says before you buy.

I'm made a claim for this repair and they have authorised it no problems. now its just a case of waiting to see if they give me my money back, because I had to pay the repairers direct.

p.s in the first six months of the policy you need to pay for any repairs yourself then they refund you, make sure you're aware of that.

Never notice that you had to pay in the 1st 6 months. I thought if it was done at their center it was paid direct. Thanks for the reply I'll look into that.
