    Default Looking to jump into Signum ownership!

    Hi All

    Have been lurking here a wee while whilst picking up info on the Signum which I have my heart on buying....and great info on here guys!

    I'm determined to buy a black (has to be black! or maybe grey) Signum with a largish engine - cant decide between 3.0 CDTi and 2.8V6. I also cant decide between the DESIGN and ELITE models as both have their merits, e.g. smoked lenses on DESIGN looks the biz but ELITE has more gadgets and full leather. So I have a few questions:

    1. Is the 3.0 diesel better to drive than the 2.8 pet? (or other engine sizes/considerations??)
    2. Should I go for DESIGN or ELITE model?
    3. Does either model come with standard Xenon's?
    4. Where do you get a rear roof spoiler (has anyone got a pic of a black/other Sig with a roof spoiler?!) and how much-ish?
    5. Where do you get the chrome roof rails (looks cool!!) and how much-ish?
    6. Is the post-facelift a much better car than the pre-facelift?

    I'll be planning to spend up to £7,500.

    OK, hopefully this should answer your questions. But first, how many miles a year do you do?

    1. Is the 3.0 diesel better to drive than the 2.8 pet? (or other engine sizes/considerations??)

    The 2.8 V6 is the same engine as the Vectra VXR, early models were 230bhp and the 2006MY onwards were 250bhp. Expect a real life average of 35/38mpg for the 3.0 diesel and 24/26mpg from the 2.8T. The 2.8T is the quicker car and responds well to a simple re-map (290/300bhp with no reliability issues).

    The 3.0 is pretty bomb proof but is expensive if anything does go wrong. If your not worried about the mpg, go for the 2.8 Turbo.

    2. Should I go for DESIGN or ELITE model?

    Design has black headlights and sports suspension, but if you find an Elite with the 18" wheel upgrade, it will also come with sports suspension, so a search for a pair of black headlights and you get the best of both worlds. Elite gets climate and full leather/heated seats and the Elite gets roof rails which I think is a must on the Signum.

    3. Does either model come with standard Xenon's?

    Nope, you need to find one with AFL. But from 2007, the Elite when specified with AFL had the black style headlights.

    4. Where do you get a rear roof spoiler (has anyone got a pic of a black/other Sig with a roof spoiler?!) and how much-ish?

    Irmscher is the best place to get one, budget for about £180 plus painting, photo's of mine below.


    5. Where do you get the chrome roof rails (looks cool!!) and how much-ish?

    Elite has them fitted as standard on facelift cars. But the bodyshells are different so they can't be retrofitted to a car without them. OK you can bolt them on but they won't be load bearing.

    6. Is the post-facelift a much better car than the pre-facelift?

    The facelift car has a better chassis and drives better. On facelift the Elite lost electric seats but thats about it. But on the whole the facelift is the better car. But it should be as Vauxhall would not release a car that is a backward step.

    Also worth fitting a travel assist, also pictured below.

    Hi Maverick

    Thank you very much for all that information and taking the time to give it.
    Thats been really really helpful.
    I dont do that many miles - about 40/day to&fro work. I think the remapped 2.8 is the way to go. Your car looks fab - are those 19" snowflakes?
    I guess its better to get the ELITE and then retrofit the darkened lenses unless I can find a model with them but its obviously not going to be easy to find a facelift 2.8V6 ELITE with FF roofrails (are these std fit on ELITE?), Xenon's, 18 wheel upgrade, etc. Most I've seen dont seem to come with the Travel Assist so that looks like another element to add. But I think I know what I'm looking for now so again, many thanks!

    sounds like you should get a nice car. to do with the engines had 3 3.0vd cdti's and wouldn't have any other. you realy want to find one adfl like me and maverick have as they work great and you get your xenons

    Cheers Matt - sounds like cant go too wrong with either engine and it has to be a V6. Seem to be more diesels out there so that might make finding the right combination somewhat easier.
    I'm a bit new to car acronyms - ADFL? Something to do with dealer fitted?

    ADFL or more commonly AFL is Adaptive Forward Lighting- it basically means Bi-Xenon lamps that tilt when you go round corners to shine into the corner so you can see better at night.

    Beleive it or not, most 2.8T's came with the 18" wheel upgrade.

    It is worth noting, that the Elite 2.8T only comes with an Autobox and the Design is manual.

    Heres a few I have found :-

    2.8T Elite, in black with AFL (Silver instead of black) and the 18" wheel upgrade/sports suspension.

    Thanks for the additional info maurauth and maverick, sorry for late reply but been away from pc for a few days. I now know what AFKL means!

    Thanks for the links Maverick, they look like good examples, its hard to get the exact spec of course and because you cant retrofit the rails I guess that has to be one item you want to begin with. Have had to fund some domestic unexpected bills so hopefully be able to get one March/April time, in the meantime its great to pick up more and more info from here...thanks to you guys I now know pretty much want I'm looking for.
