    Default Signum Tailgate won't unlock

Electronic lock on tailgate won't unlock using all of the following
    -button on tailgate
    -button on keyfob
-button on driver or passengers doors

Pressing any of these produces a short bleep from the car, but no unlocking action.

Lock mechanism appears to work OK.

Can open tailgate from inside using the manual method.

Any ideas to what the problem is?

forgot to mention that turning on the ignition brings up an alarm system message: "Check Safeguard" on the cars dashboard information display.

Car starts OK & central locking works fine for all other doors & buttons.

I am sure there is a thread somewhere where it explains how to take the lock apart as in their case I think the lock had seized up and a clean and some lubricant did the trick. Have you done a search for any help yet.?
I was under the impression that "check safe guard" was to do with the alarm?.
    Edit have a read here."safe guard" http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...ailgate+unlock
Here is the thread I mentioned above I managed to find it. Read the link in the post by Duncan, this might be some help.

Thanks Ed. I had in fact already taken the lock off the car & found that it was working OK. It contains an electric motor which turns a worm drive which moves a lever which unlocks the locks jaws.

I will have a go at checking the tailgate release button tomorrow. I didn't try this first because I thought that since none of the release buttons worked the fault was most likely the lock or some electronic control unit somewhere in the car, especially as the Check Safeguard warning was displayed. Plus I noticed the thread (http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66511) for putting the release button back again might be painful.

All the buttons inside and on the key do is allow the boot to be opened via the switch on the boot. If you press anyone of these and the number plate lights come on then its the switch on the lid.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    Hi me again.
Rechecking after Big Sig's post, noticed that number plate lights don't light when pressing the release buttons. In fact they aren't lit even when head/side lights switched on - in conjunction with the tailgate lock not working - what might this indicate ?

Also have removed, checked & reinstalled the micro switch & can confirm in isolation it works OK as a switch. On the car it doesn't appear to be receiving current.

Any ideas as to what to check next ?

    Default The solution

Eventually found the solution to the unlocking problem myself.

It wasn't the lock or the micro switch or a fuse, but found that there is a wiring connector in the tailgate itself that had become unconnected. Which is why the lock & number plate lights & in due course as I discovered wipers & rear screen heater didn't work.

Solution - remove the lower trim panel from the tailgate, the connector is then found at the top of where the panel was -nearside.

I guess the connector had come undone, as a result of having to slam this tailgate shut over the years to avoid it only half locking if one is to gentle.

Moral of the story - if the tailgate won't unlock, check that the other electricals on the tailgate work, before thinking it is the lock or microswitch that's broke.

One other odd thing (yet another false trail for me) that I noticed on my 2003 Signum is that the rear fusebox contains a fuse socket (F18) for the tailgate but it has never had or needed a fuse - can anyone confirm that it is not used on the Signum but presumably is used elsewhere.

Can't cars be frustating at times.

    Unhappy

I have a similar problem with my Vectra,
Yesterday the tailgate wouldn't undo - used the 'crawl through the rear seat & use a big screwdriver' then drove the 90miles home then the tailgate opened.
Left the car overnight, the tailgate opened.
Drove to work, tailgate opened, drove home - no luck

Managed to open via the 'crawl through the rear seat & use a big screwdriver' checked F18 no fuse.

Is there an easy way to remove the tailgate trim without damaging the anything ?

I need to replace the micro switch inside. Anyone who can tell where to find it?
